Trump Midterm Convention Ends In Cut-Price Fiasco, Low Turnout
President Donald Trump's multi-day midterm convention at the American Airlines Center in Dallas wrapped up amid plunging attendance figures and bargain-basement merchandise sales. Vendors resorted to slashing prices by Day 2, offering heavily discounted T-shirts, elephant pins, and bundle deals on hats to offload unsold inventory.
Despite official claims of a massive turnout, rows of empty seats remained visible across the upper levels of the 20,000-capacity arena throughout the event. High prices for basic concessions, including nine-dollar water bottles and twenty-five-dollar hot dog meals, further dampened the atmosphere for attendees on the concourses.
"We had a lot of slope on it, and I felt it was too much slope," remarked organizers while managing logistics, though the real focus of the gathering shifted far away from the public arena floor.
While speeches played out to a mixed crowd, Republican powerbrokers directed their energy toward exclusive private fundraisers across Dallas. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise headlined a high-tier event at a billionaire donor's estate, while Vice President JD Vance and Senator Ted Cruz hosted separate closed-door donor roundtables requiring steep six-figure admissions.
Veteran political consultants suggest the high-cost convention theatrics will do little to alter the political landscape ahead of the upcoming November midterm elections.
